Aesthetic clinics use Nabota, a prescription-only botulinum toxin type A, in treatments for the appearance of expression lines. The areas it is used on are the horizontal lines of the forehead, the glabellar lines that appear between the eyebrows when a person frowns, and crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes. It is administered only by a registered medical practitioner, after a professional assessment.

Several manufacturers make botulinum toxin type A, and each product is a separate medicine with its own leaflet. The units used to measure one product are specific to it, so a unit of one toxin is not equivalent to a unit of another and doses cannot be carried across. For a clinic, choosing a toxin means choosing a product its doctors will learn from its own leaflet and use consistently.
